SUMMARY:AINTREE RACECOURSE GRAND PRIX CIRCUIT LAPS AND DINNER
DESCRIPTION:To mark 70 years since the first win of a British Grand Prix by a British man\, Stirling Moss\, at Aintree on 16th July 1955. This was also Stirling’s first ever Grand Prix win. Stirling drove a Mercedes W196\, narrowly and controversially beating his teammate Fangio into second place. Students of history will know this race was the last for the Mercedes Team for over 30 years coming as it did straight after the disaster at Le-Mans in June. To mark the event the Aintree Circuit Club have invited BODA to take part in the commemorations. We will be permitted parade laps of the (still intact) circuit before enjoying a private dinner in the circuit facilities\, better known these days for horse racing.\nFor those travelling some distance there are plenty of hotels nearby to suit all budgets. You could make a weekend of it and see some of Liverpool’s many tourist attractions.\nExpected timings are:\n17:30 – Guests Arrival at Aintree Circuit\nSign on/wristbands/decals…drinks reception.\n17:45 – Drivers briefing for race car demo drivers\n18:00 – 18:40 RACE CAR PARADES\nPeriod and contemporary race car demonstrations on the Historic Grand Prix Circuit using the start/finish straight.\n18:45 – Drivers briefing for parade cars lapping full GP Circuit\n19:00 – 19:45 ROAD CAR PARADES\n19:00 – Cars line up on start grid in front of stands followed by controlled laps of full GP circuit. Grid order determined by age of cars\n19:45 – GP Circuit closes for laps.\nDrivers/Guests return to Princess Royal Suite at Aintree overlooking the race circuit\n20:15 – 3 course dinner served – Formal entrance by The Mayor of Sefton as Special Guest. \nThe Aintree Circuit Club are catering for around 100 hundred guests/participants. We are hoping BODA can take one or two tables at the event. This is an entirely private event\, there is no public admission.\nThe ticket price is £99 per participant (a driver plus guest would require two tickets) to attend the event and the opportunity to drive the full Grand Prix circuit plus the reception and private dinner. Dress code will be smart casual or lounge suits.\nAll Bristol cars are welcome but If anyone has a 1955 Bristol or Bristol engined car especially race cars these will be given the highest priority.\nThe Aintree Circuit Club are running the event under a Motorsport UK Permit (Touring Assembly/Procession for Historical Purposes).\nPlease can you now confirm with Michael Barton and we can then confirm payment and tickets.

DESCRIPTION:This event is fully booked so just for information \nWarwick Banks is hosting a private lunch for BODA members and other Bristol car owners. It will be held at the BRDC Clubhouse\, Silverstone on Saturday 5th April 2025. \nThis follows the similar events over the past five years\, commemorating 100 years since the birth of Tony Crook (2020)\, the launch of “Aero-Dynamic”\, by Simon Charlesworth in 2022\, 2023’s event marking 70 years since the Bristol 403 and 404 were launched and last year when we marked 70 years of the 405. \nAt the London Motor Show of 1975 Bristol announced the launch of the 412 which went on to be the basis for the 412S2\, the Beaufort and of course the mighty Beaufighter. The 412 was the first production convertible since the 405 and\, although the looks didn’t appeal to all\, the basic design by Zagato was to serve Bristol over the next 18 years and about 100 cars were produced. Those owners who know about the cars and understand the design are generally very loyal to the model. 20 plus years ownership periods are frequent. The versatility of the convertible\, hard top options\, performance and the improved handling from earlier cars are much appreciated by their owners.

DESCRIPTION:Here is an update to the information around the meetings the Midlands area hold at Caffeine end Machine.  This meeting was established to provide an opportunity for members to meet up and chat and hopefully bring their cars to share the passion of all things Bristol related.  With a new year I thought we should ring some changes so the day will be changing to Wednesday with the usual meeting time of lunchtime until we run out of gas.  I believe this suits everyone and I hope the great turnouts continue.  Of course the meeting is open to all and I hope some members from the East of England and South Central regions will be able to make the gathering over the summer. \nDates are \n19th February \n16th April \n18th June \n13th August \n24th September \n19th November \nSo please get the dates in your diary and join us for a chat and give everyone a chance to admire your car.

Whilst the venue is immensely popular\, and getting in at the weekend requires a pre-booked ticket\, these Tuesday gatherings will not require advance reservations. Arrangements are informal\, with vehicles normally arriving in the early afternoon so that owners can meet up for lunch.  \nIt will be helpful if those planning to attend can let Mike Hallissey know in advance.

SUMMARY:Southport Classic & Speed 13th to 15th September 2024
DESCRIPTION:2024 sees the third running of this event. It is organised by the Aintree Circuit Club. Southport\, alongside Brighton\, Bexhill and Blackpool is one of Britain’s original Motor Sports venues. The Aintree Circuit Club is working to commemorate that and of course continue to make history. \nFor 2023 the organisers kindly arranged a closed class for Bristol and Bristol engined cars. That attracted five entries and we were able to make the inaugural award of the Anthony Crook Memorial Trophy to the fastest car in our class. The trophy went to Ben Maeers driving Peter Mann’s Frazer Nash Le-Mans Replica RPJ1. Appropriately this is the car in which Tony Crook enjoyed his greatest motor racing triumph at Monaco in 1952. For those who know their Bristol history\, Southport is where\, in 1926\, Crook became addicted to motor racing. You could speculate that without Southport the future of Bristol Cars (and cars) would have looked very different after 1960. \nIf you are interested in attending and participating in some or all of the weekend\, please could you let me know as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:“Classics in the Park“\, Rushden
DESCRIPTION:Rushden ‘Classics in the Park’ was the first event BODA arranged following lock down in those dark days of 2020. This was a great success and we have repeated it over the last few years.  The event is run by the local Rotary Club and when we have been before a great selection of cars were to be seen. There are plenty of other attractions and food stalls to keep body and soul together. This year it is being held on Sunday 4th August. You can access details for booking the event can be found here and there are still tickets available. \nI look forward to seeing those who can make it and hopefully get to see some great cars. These have in past ranged from pre-war classics to cars of a more modern vintage. SUMMARY:South of Ireland Tour
DESCRIPTION:There has been significant interest in the Tour of the South of Ireland through Scenic Car Tours. So we have committed to go ahead.  The company have arranged a number of similar events for other clubs.  The itinerary is to catch the ferry from Hollyhead on 14th May at 14:10 arriving in Dublin at 17:25 ready for the drive down to Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey\, a town on the East side of Ireland just North of Waterford.  This is a very scenic drive and we should arrive just after 7:00pm ready for dinner which has been arranged for that night.  We will be staying there for a total of 3 nights giving a chance to explore the area which includes Wells House\, Johnstown Castle and Waterford which has a great museum and of course tours of the Crystal works.  If people are interested\, I will see if we can arrange something of an event with the team at Wells House.  The idea is to offer suggestions but not be proscriptive. \nOn 17th we will drive along the South Coast road\, which is a good A road\, to Cork and stay at the Kingsley hotel which fronts on to the original Cork Motor Race Circuit for 4 nights.  We have dinner booked for the first and last nights.  The circuit\, where a Grand Prix race was held in 1938\, was a road circuit of some 9.6km where average speeds of 93 – 96 mph were the norm and the same roads can still bn driven today.  In the area is the Titanic Experience at Cobh\, the last place the ship docked on its famous voyage\, Cobh Cathedral designed by Pugin and Foto Park\, an amazing wildlife park.  Further afield are Kinsale\, the ‘Gourmet Capital of Ireland’\, Baltimore with it newly restored Castle\, Garinish Island with its wonderful gardens made possible by the Gulf stream and of course Blarney Castle.  We will be returning via Dublin on 21 May.  There will be rally plate for each car and a road book with maps covering places of interest. \nThe cost is £1499 each for 2 sharing and £2198 for singles.  For those seeking to use other ferry routes do speak to Scenic\, one member has already been able to vary the ferry route through them.
