SUMMARY:Southport Classic & Speed 13th to 15th September 2024
DESCRIPTION:2024 sees the third running of this event. It is organised by the Aintree Circuit Club. Southport\, alongside Brighton\, Bexhill and Blackpool is one of Britain’s original Motor Sports venues. The Aintree Circuit Club is working to commemorate that and of course continue to make history. \nFor 2023 the organisers kindly arranged a closed class for Bristol and Bristol engined cars. That attracted five entries and we were able to make the inaugural award of the Anthony Crook Memorial Trophy to the fastest car in our class. The trophy went to Ben Maeers driving Peter Mann’s Frazer Nash Le-Mans Replica RPJ1. Appropriately this is the car in which Tony Crook enjoyed his greatest motor racing triumph at Monaco in 1952. For those who know their Bristol history\, Southport is where\, in 1926\, Crook became addicted to motor racing. You could speculate that without Southport the future of Bristol Cars (and cars) would have looked very different after 1960. \nIf you are interested in attending and participating in some or all of the weekend\, please could you let me know as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:Caffeine & Machine Gatherings – 10 September & 12 November
DESCRIPTION:Caffeine & Machine is an eatery just south of Stratford which is described as the Ace Cafe of the Midlands.  It has a great reputation as a place to go with your car. Whilst the venue is immensely popular\, and getting in at the weekend requires a pre-booked ticket\, these Tuesday gatherings will not require advance reservations. Arrangements are informal\, with vehicles normally arriving in the early afternoon so that owners can meet up for lunch.  \nIt will be helpful if those planning to attend can let Mike Hallissey know in advance.

SUMMARY:“Classics in the Park“\, Rushden
DESCRIPTION:Rushden ‘Classics in the Park’ was the first event BODA arranged following lock down in those dark days of 2020. This was a great success and we have repeated it over the last few years.  The event is run by the local Rotary Club and when we have been before a great selection of cars were to be seen. There are plenty of other attractions and food stalls to keep body and soul together. This year it is being held on Sunday 4th August. You can access details for booking the event can be found here and there are still tickets available. \nI look forward to seeing those who can make it and hopefully get to see some great cars. These have in past ranged from pre-war classics to cars of a more modern vintage. If you are able to make it\, please drop me an email so I can make arrangements for a suitable area with the organisers.

SUMMARY:South of Ireland Tour
DESCRIPTION:There has been significant interest in the Tour of the South of Ireland through Scenic Car Tours. So we have committed to go ahead.  The company have arranged a number of similar events for other clubs.  The itinerary is to catch the ferry from Hollyhead on 14th May at 14:10 arriving in Dublin at 17:25 ready for the drive down to Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey\, a town on the East side of Ireland just North of Waterford.  This is a very scenic drive and we should arrive just after 7:00pm ready for dinner which has been arranged for that night.  We will be staying there for a total of 3 nights giving a chance to explore the area which includes Wells House\, Johnstown Castle and Waterford which has a great museum and of course tours of the Crystal works.  If people are interested\, I will see if we can arrange something of an event with the team at Wells House.  The idea is to offer suggestions but not be proscriptive. \nOn 17th we will drive along the South Coast road\, which is a good A road\, to Cork and stay at the Kingsley hotel which fronts on to the original Cork Motor Race Circuit for 4 nights.  We have dinner booked for the first and last nights.  The circuit\, where a Grand Prix race was held in 1938\, was a road circuit of some 9.6km where average speeds of 93 – 96 mph were the norm and the same roads can still bn driven today.  In the area is the Titanic Experience at Cobh\, the last place the ship docked on its famous voyage\, Cobh Cathedral designed by Pugin and Foto Park\, an amazing wildlife park.  Further afield are Kinsale\, the ‘Gourmet Capital of Ireland’\, Baltimore with it newly restored Castle\, Garinish Island with its wonderful gardens made possible by the Gulf stream and of course Blarney Castle.  We will be returning via Dublin on 21 May.  There will be rally plate for each car and a road book with maps covering places of interest. \nThe cost is £1499 each for 2 sharing and £2198 for singles.  For those seeking to use other ferry routes do speak to Scenic\, one member has already been able to vary the ferry route through them. However\, where people book their own ferries or live in Ireland there is a £350 discount per booking.  Scenic is ABTOT registered so the event is projected financially.  You do not have to come in a Bristol\, though this is to be encouraged\,  this is about doing things together as much as anything.  You can book on line or by telephone on 01732 879153 quoting IRE-BODA.  \nPlease get your booking in promptly as we need to confirm the hotel and ferry bookings to secure the price.  All the details can be found on the BODA website under the events tab. \nPS. \nIt is now just 6 weeks until the Irish trip and there are only a few slots left.  For those thinking off coming now is the final chance to book a slot.  All the information about the trip is given above and you can book on line or by telephone on 01732 879153 quoting IRE-BODA.  It looks to be a great trip with much to see and do\, including the Titanic Experience and for those in need to the gift of the gab a chance to kiss the Blarney Stone.  For those who have not crossed the water recently\, the roads are good\, they put our potholed stock to shame\, and motorways outside of Dublin are virtually empty.  If you have been considering coming now is the time to take the leap and get your booking in. \nMike Hallissey\, mikehallissey@icloud.com

SUMMARY:Southport Classic & Speed. 16/17 Sept. 2023
DESCRIPTION:As you may be aware Southport is one of the original homes of Bristol motor sport and was incredibly important in the life of Tony Crook being the place he was first introduced\, aged six\, to motor racing.\n \nThe Aintree Circuit Club  www.southportclassicandspeed.com  are running Southport Classic & Speed for the third year running over two days\, 16th & 17th September. This is reviving motor sport in Southport after sixty years.\n \nThere are several things going on over the weekend and BODA hopes to support as many of them as we can. In particular:\n  \n\nTimed Sprints on closed roads at the seafront on the Saturday afternoon\, watch or take part.\nDinner on the Saturday night at the Waterfront Hotel\, Southport\, where The Aintree Circuit Club arranges a special room rate\nAn excellent conventional Classic Car Show on the Sunday at Victoria Park\n\n \nWe have a sponsor who is prepared to provide an award (provisionally the Anthony Crook Memorial Trophy) if we can assemble a group of Bristol and Bristol engined cars to take part in our own separate sprint class.\n \nThe sprint rules and regulations are about as light as you might hope so\, please let me know if you’d like to take part in this or any other part of the weekend. We hope to have ten or so cars on display on the Sunday.\n \nMichael W Barton\n \n23rd June 2023\n \nmwb0605@gmail.com\nTel: 07801 538170 \n

SUMMARY:Fathers' Day Bristol Display - Aerospace Bristol - Sunday 18 June 23
DESCRIPTION:The Bristol Owners’ Heritage Trust is sponsoring a display of Bristol and Bristol-engined cars at Aerospace Bristol as part of their Fathers’ Day events\, Sunday 18th June 2023.  Whilst other makes (BMW and Aston Martin) will be in attendance\, Bristol cars will have pride of place and be parked between the two exhibition hangars.  Historic BMW cars are welcome to join us.  Quite apart from our presence\, the Aerospace exhibits are stunning and include not only Concorde but a sectioned Bristol 401.  For those not mesmerised by mechanical contraptions\, Aerospace provides a huge amount of social history for the areas around Bristol going back over 100 years. \nAdministration: \nPlease arrive between 0830hrs and 1030hrs.  Turn up at the main Aerospace entrance (post code BS34 5BZ) and you will be directed to the display area.  Your car will be static during the display.  You may leave any time after 1500hrs. \nThere is no charge for those attending in a Bristol or Bristol-engined car and the driver and passenger will be offered complimentary entry to the Museum exhibits.   \nThere is an excellent restaurant/snack bar on site but space for picnics is available. \nIf you plan to attend please contact BOHT Trustee\, Peter Campbell\, (peter.campbell88@btinternet.com) and book in.   \nPlease do this as soon as possible!

SUMMARY:BRDC Silverstone lunch - Saturday 27th May
DESCRIPTION:Warwick Banks is hosting a private lunch for BODA members and other Bristol car owners. It will be held at the BRDC Clubhouse\, Silverstone on Saturday 27th May 2023. \nThis follows the similar lunch three years ago\, just before the Covid lockdowns\, commemorating 100 years since the birth of Tony Crook and again\, last year celebrating the UK launch of “Aero-Dynamic”\, by Simon Charlesworth\, charting the rise of the Bristol 450 to successful endurance racing at Reims and Le Mans. \nThe Historic Sports Car Club (HSCC) are holding their International Trophy Meeting over the same weekend so there should be plenty of track action going on. Although this will be a bank holiday weekend\, we hope that a Saturday event allows everyone to enjoy the rest of the break. \nIt is 70 years since the 403 and 404 were launched and the HSCC will allow us to do some parade laps for 403 and 404 cars and then suitable cars will be parked together in front of the Clubhouse with separate parking nearby for anyone else arriving in a Bristol or Bristol engined car.  \nWe are also hopeful that the former staff of Bristol Cars and Bristol Cars Services will use the event to hold another staff reunion. \nThe weather was spectacular on both previous occasions but for very different reasons\, so we make no promises in that department. \nThe event is open to all Bristol owners so if you know someone who might like to come along but isn’t (yet) a BODA member just let me know to arrange an invitation. \nAs before I’m making the arrangements with the BRDC on Warwick’s behalf so please let me know if you’d like to attend. \nCosts are £46 per person including circuit passes\, a welcome drink\, 2 course lunch with a bottle of white and red wine on each table followed by tea and coffee. \nWarwick and I hope you can make it. It is a real privilege to be able to use the BRDC Clubhouse and we are hoping that we can have an outstanding turnout\, even more than the 90 plus people who attended in May 2022. \nCould you please confirm your booking by paying £46 per person directly to the Bristol Owners & Drivers Association bank account at Co-Op bank \, sort code 08-92-99\, account number 65417094 marking your payment with your name followed by BRDC. \nCan you also let me know you are planning to attend with the names of your guests and details of any food allergies. Also with details of your car and\, if you are arriving in a 403 or 404\, whether or not you’d like to take part in the parade. \nMichael W Barton \n19th March 2023 \nEmail or 07801 538170

DESCRIPTION:The Jensen Owners’ Club has kindly invited BODA\, together with a group of Midgets and Sprites\, to join it for its Drive It Day event on Sunday 23rd April at Hever Castle in Kent; an historic country house with 13th century origins which was the seat of the Boleyn family from 1462 to 1539.  Vehicles need to be parked up by 10.15am\, so arrival between 9.45am and 10am is recommended.  Hever Castle has yet to publish its admission fees for 2023 but is likely to be in the range of £20 per adult.  Pre-registration is essential for this event as there will be a cap on total numbers.  Please contact James Calladine \nPlease note that vehicles participating in Drive It Day are encouraged to carry event plates\, the sale of which raises money for Childline.  Plates are available to suit a range of budgets\, starting at just £10\, and can be bought at www.driveitday.co.uk/shop

SUMMARY:Drive-it Day; Joint Gathering with Bristol Owners Club Wessex section at The Classic Motor Hub\, Bibury\, Glos.
DESCRIPTION:Based at the historic site of RAF Bibury in the heart of the Cotswolds and founded by Martin Chisholm\, The Classic Motor Hub is a 5-acre site dedicated to classic motoring.  Home of No 87 Squadron (Hurricanes) and No 92 Squadron (Spitfires) during WWII\, much of the original hardstanding of the airfield remains in use\, together with a “blister” aircraft hangar.  \nThe village of Bibury itself was ranked the fifth prettiest in England in a 2021 competition (Castle Combe\, which also features in our 2023 events list\, ranked first.)  Further details of timings will follow\, but will most likely feature a start time of 10-11am.  A coffee shop is available on site.  \nPlease can those with an interest in attending this event make contact with James Calladine  so that we can advise The Classic Motor Hub of probable numbers.

SUMMARY:Caffeine & Machine gatherings
DESCRIPTION:Caffeine & Machine is an eatery just south of Stratford which is described as the Ace Cafe of the Midlands.  It has a great reputation as a place to go with your car.   \nAs you know we had a successful gathering in November at Caffeine and Machine and so we are aiming to make this a regular event.  \nI am proposing another gathering on the afternoon of April 18th.  I hope to arrive at around 2:00 but of course people can come any time to suit them.  As ever\, Bristols are not essential\, it will be great just to gather and discuss all things Bristol.  For me\, the chance to meet and chat with other members was the real joy of the last occasion.  If anyone does bring their Bristol\, I hope we will be able to get the cars parked in the Front yard again.   \nI look forward to seeing those who can make it and hopefully get to see some wonderful cars.  If you are able to make it\, please drop me an email so I can book some space for us. \nTuesday 18th April\, and thereafter 20th June and 26th September \nIt will be helpful if those planning to attend can let Mike Hallissey know in advance. \nMike

SUMMARY:Bristol car pre-Christmas London meet Sunday 11 December 2022
DESCRIPTION:Michael Parr is arranging a pre-Christmas get together for free mince pies and (weak) mulled wine at the premises of ‘Duke of London’ on Sunday 11th December 2022 from 10am onwards until 2pm or so. \n‘Duke of London’ is a family run classic car dealership based in Brentford in a 51\,000 sq. ft. former soap factory and offers storage\, repairs\, servicing\, detailing services as well as sales; and mobile hairdressing is served out of a vintage Airstream camper! The loos are respectable. \nBrentford is outside the ULEZ (ineligible cars beware: boundary lies a few hundred metres to the east) and congestion zone. \nContact details are: \nDuke of London\, The Factory\, Catherine Wheel Road\, Brentford TW8 8BD \nTel.: 07545 430 813 \n  \nThe MacCormack family may be remembered by some as the restorers of a Bristol 407 featured in a TV programme about 20 years ago. They also run a pub\, pizzeria and cafe on site; Merlin and family are opening their facility to Bristols free of charge but in return ask their food and drink outlets are used as much as possible. \nThis part of Brentford is an historic canal and dock area. Very interesting to walk around and along the River Brent/Grand Union Canal\, which may will soon be under developers’ concrete. The event is open to all Bristol owners but those intending to attend should please book in advance with Michael as numbers are limited to 55 on the day. \nMichael Parr 07734 983333           m_parr@hotmail.co.uk

SUMMARY:Caffeine and Machine Get-Together on 22 November
DESCRIPTION:After the success of the meeting in early September it was decided a bimonthly meeting was a sensible option.  With the NEC on over the weekend of 11th to 13th November\, it was decided to hold the next event on 22nd November.  The plan is to arrive between 1:00 and 2:00 pm.  The venue is like the Ace Café\, so coffee\, good burgers and pizza and a selection of beers and wine.  So really something for everybody.  \nIn September we had a good selection of Bristols but not all brought their cars.  Bringing  your Bristol is not required\, particularly when the weather may not be the best\, but take the opportunity to just come and catch up with like-minded Bristol enthusiasts.  If you aim to come please let me know so I can try and sort some reserved space for us by emailing me.
