411 Overdrive
Quote from Mark Stuart on 28 April 2026, 15:57I have a 411 S3 (383 big-block) and am thinking about considering the possibility of contemplating some form of overdrive. This could be a separate overdrive unit such as Laycock De Normanville or GearVendors, or an overdrive transmission of some sort.
Specifically, has anyone fitted a separate overdrive unit to a 411? If so, thoughts and details please!
More generally, so far I know that: any overdrive auto, Chrysler or otherwise, will need an adaptor to bolt to a Chrysler B block; GearVendors are available for the 727 but are long and expensive; no UK separate overdrive was ever designed for the Chrysler TF727; some cars have been fitted with ZF automatics but of course needed an adaptor or modified bellhousing; the GM TH700r4 has it's mounting pad closest of any automatic to the TF727 point; and that one option could be a transplant of a complete engine and transmission and ECU/transmission controller from a later Chrysler vehicle but it's a nuclear option.
Cheers
